2. The brief history of Hom Market Hanoi

Hom Market Hanoi first opened in the early 19th century on Hang Bai Street as a place that sold fowl. In order to make room for Duc Vien Pagoda, the market was demolished and rebuilt on Hue Street in 1921. Since then, the market has expanded and offered a wider variety of goods, mostly meat, poultry, and vegetables. At that time, Hom Market only opened in the afternoon. However, in order to meet the steadily increasing demand of locals, the market is now open all day and provides almost everything that you can think of, making it the second largest market in Hanoi, just after Dong Xuan Market.
