1. An overview of Hon Ba Nature Reserve Vietnam

Hon Ba Nature Reserve is located some 60 kilometres to the southwest of Nha Trang city centre. Although it is a new destination, the nature reserve is attracting many domestic and international visitors each year. The area has many mountains 1,500 metres above sea level. It has cool weather all year round.

The site was discovered by Dr. Alexandre Yersin (1863-1943). In 1915, he set up a research centre here and grew various valuable medical plants. In order to commemorate the great scientist, local authorities rebuilt his house on the peak of Hon Ba to remind the next generations of his contributions.

From Nha Trang city centre, go along National Highway 1A to the junction of Suoi Cat, turn left and go straight to Suoi Dau Lake. You will see an immense primeval forest. Visitors can contemplate the spectacular scenery along some 37 kilometres up to the peak of Hon Ba.

2. The best time to visit Hon Ba Nature Reserve Nha Trang

Nha Trang has an average temperature of 26.3 degrees Celsius and 2 distinct seasons: the dry and rainy seasons. The dry season lasts from January to September. The weather is cool, sometimes the sun shines strongly from May to August. The rainy season lasts from September to December. Small and hard rains come often, with cold weather. The sea gets rough and is not really suitable for swimming.

In the meantime, Hon Ba Nature Reserve has cool and pleasant weather all year round but with a lot of rain. There are more than 250 rainy days in Hon Ba. Hence, visitors should check the weather forecast before visiting the site. It rains harder here in October and November, and the road is slippery. You should stop at Suoi Nguon Waterfall and refrain from going up to the peak to ensure safety.

Hon Ba Nature Reserve is a large eco-tourism site, where visitors are free to explore the house of Dr. Yersin, Suoi Dau Lake, primitive forests, and magnificent waterfalls.

On the way to the peak of Hon Ba, visitors can find Suoi Nguon Waterfall. The vigorous stream pours down and creates a clear turquoise lake. Suoi Dau Waterfall is located at the foot of Hon Ba Mountain, which is the first attraction you will see before entering Hon Ba Nature Reserve. This is a man-made lake for irrigation in the whole locality. The area is also known as Suoi Dau Industrial Zone. There is a green forest surrounding the lake. 3.3. Explore the rich flora and fauna of Hon Ba Nature Reserve

Hon Ba Nature Reserve has an abundant and diverse vegetation system. There are nearly 600 species of vascular plants, coniferous trees, and rare tropical flora. The nature reserve has also been preserving 255 animal species, including black-shanked douc and gibbon.

The management board of Hon Ba Nature Reserve has been mindfully managing the forest to keep it safe from harm. In recent years, forest protection stations have been established in areas that are more vulnerable.

3.4. Visit the residence of Dr. Alexandre Yersin in the past

The house where Dr. Yersin stayed was constructed in 1863. Since then, the area has been preserved to commemorate his contributions. The 2-storey wooden house measures 11.4 metres in length and 8.7 metres in width. There are old tea trees and a stable nearby.
