Up till now, Long Son Pagoda has been supervised by five abbots, the first one being monk Thich Ngo Chi (1886-1935), who was also the founder of the pagoda.
The pagoda was built around 1886, when it was only a small cottage on the top of Trai Thuy hill. In 1900, after collapsing from a huge storm, it had to be moved down to the foothill where it stands today.
In 1936, the pagoda was given to the Society of An Nam Buddhist Studies to be the headquarter of Buddhism in Khanh Hoa, following the will of monk Thich Ngo Chi.
Throughout history, the pagoda has been repaired and restored several times. Now, it has the most appealing structure and landscape among the pagodas in Nha Trang.
After more than 100 years, the pagoda has become one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Nha Trang. There are thousands of people coming to the pagoda every year to visit and worship.
