The pagoda was built around 1886, when it was only a small cottage on the top of Trai Thuy hill. In 1900, after collapsing from a huge storm, it had to be moved down to the foothill where it stands today.

In 1936, the pagoda was given to the Society of An Nam Buddhist Studies to be the headquarter of Buddhism in Khanh Hoa, following the will of monk Thich Ngo Chi.

Throughout history, the pagoda has been repaired and restored several times. Now, it has the most appealing structure and landscape among the pagodas in Nha Trang.
