2. When was Non Nuoc Pagoda in Da Nang built?

Non Nuoc Pagoda has a rich history that dates back several centuries ago. Its construction is believed to be in the 17th century, under the reign of King Gia Long.

According to legend, while the King passed by Marble Mountain, he was drawn to the splendid surroundings, and he made the decision to construct a pagoda and give it the name Ngu Ngu Ung Chon.

In the early 19th century, King Minh Mang ordered his troops to rebuild the pagoda and changed its name to Ung Chon. In the late 19th century, as Kinh Thanh Thai was concerned that the name was similar to that of a king of the Nguyen Dynasty, he changed the pagoda’s name to Linh Ung.

Until now, the pagoda has existed for more than 300 years and has undergone numerous damages in the past wars. However, Non Nuoc Pagoda still retains some special characteristics of the Nguyen Dynasty’s architectural aesthetics.
