The Vietnam embassy is where tourists apply for a Vietnam travel visa. It also serves Vietnamese citizens in other countries. What are the requirements for applying for visas for Vietnam travel? What about the list of Vietnam embassies in other countries? Are there foreign embassies in Vietnam? This article will get you covered.

1. About Vietnam embassy visa requirements

Vietnam visa is a must-have when you want to travel to this beautiful Southeast Asian country. A visa is required for most nationalities, but some are exempt.

1.1. Types of Vietnam visas

1.1.1. Visa on Arrival (VOA)

Vietnam visa on arrival, or airport visa, is the most convenient visa for passengers traveling by plane, as it is easy, fast, and cheap to get. VOA is only available for travelers bound for one of Vietnam’s eight international airports (Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Cat Bi, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Can Tho, Da Lat, and Phu Quoc).

The process is fairly straightforward: after completing an online application, you will receive a Visa on Arrival approval letter from the Vietnam embassy or immigration department through email. You print it out, present it at customs upon arrival, and pay your visa stamping cost in US Dollars. Single-entry and multiple-entry stampings cost $25 and $50, respectively.

The validity time for tourist and business VOA is up to 25 days and up to 3 months, respectively.

1.1.2. Getting a visa via the Vietnam embassy or consulate

Visitors can also apply for a Vietnam tourist visa at a Vietnam embassy and consulate in other countries, but the process will take longer. Additionally, the requirements vary by country. Therefore, you will need to contact the Vietnam embassy in your country in advance for detailed guidelines.

1.1.3. Vietnam e-visas

Apart from VOA and visa application at the Vietnam embassy, tourists can also choose to apply for electronic visas via the Vietnam Immigration Department. It is available for single entry and only valid for 30 days. 80 nationalities are now eligible to apply for an e-visa.

The fee for a Vietnam e-visa is 25 US Dollars. If your application is rejected or your visa letter contains any error due to incorrect information you provided on the application form, this fee is not refundable. Processing time may be longer on public holidays or if there is a high volume of applicants, but typically, it takes three working days to obtain the e-visa letter. Thus, you should request for this form of visa 1-2 weeks prior to departure.

1.2. Documents to prepare

Whether you are going to apply for a visa at the Vietnam embassy, online, or upon arrival, the following documents are required:

  • A valid passport. Your passport must be in effect for a minimum of six months after the date of your entry into Vietnam. It should also have at least 2 blank pages left for the immigration stamps. Temporary passports are not accepted.
  • Visa approval letter from the Vietnam embassy or consulate. It is required if you want to apply for a visa on arrival or a business visa.

2. Vietnam embassies and diplomatic missions in other countries

The Vietnam embassy refers to the workplace of the Vietnamese governmental representatives who represent their nation abroad. Currently, Vietnam embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions have a presence in 68 countries and territories in the world.

What is the difference between the Vietnam embassy and consulate?

  • The Vietnam embassy is the “main office” and usually located in the capital city of a country. There is only one embassy in that country, and the ambassador serves as its chief.
  • The Vietnam consulate is the branch office of the Vietnam embassy. A country may have many consulates, which are usually found in other major cities. Consulates are overseen by a consul general.

The main function of the Vietnamese embassy and consulate is to help Vietnamese citizens who are living, working, or traveling abroad. They also assist foreign nationals in traveling to or becoming citizens of Vietnam. In order to establish and sustain partnerships regarding politics, commerce, and culture, the Vietnam embassy works in conjunction with the regional authorities, companies, and other groups as part of their diplomatic mission.

Dealing with Vietnam visas is the most common function that the Vietnam embassy does for foreign travelers.
