1.2 History

The park was once Saigon’s railroad station, constructed by the French in the nineteenth century. After Independence Day, the railway station was no longer necessary, therefore it was destroyed and relocated to Ho Chi Minh City‘s District 3. The railroad station has been partially transformed into a park. The remainder of the station is converted into a neighborhood. Since then, Pham Ngu Lao and De Tham locals have joined forces with the park to transform it into a destination for tourists. It was built as a way to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in defense of the country’s freedom.

The park is situated in the center of Ho Chi Minh City and was designed by French architect Louis Cordonnier. It is a distinctive fusion of architectural designs that combines both contemporary and traditional Vietnamese elements. Inside the park lies a huge artificial lake, where visitors can enjoy recreational activities such as boat riding and paddle-boarding.
