US citizens planning Vietnam travel must first obtain a visa for Vietnam from US. The visa application process can be completed online or in person at the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate and requires a valid passport, payment of the visa fee, and a completed visa application form. Once approved, the visa will be issued within a few business days, allowing you to embark on your Vietnam travel adventure with ease.

1. Requirements for Vietnam visa application from US

To enter Vietnam, a valid passport and visa (or pre-approval for a visa on arrival) are required, including for US citizens. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay and have one blank visa page (excluding the endorsement page).

If you arrive without an appropriate visa or pre-approval, you will be denied entry. US citizens should consult the Embassy of Vietnam and the Department of State’s website for dual nationality requirements. Vietnamese citizens using a Vietnamese passport to enter and exit Vietnam must have at least six months’ validity from their return date to the US.

For more information on obtaining a visa for Vietnam from US, please visit the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

When planning your trip to Vietnam, make sure to apply for the appropriate visa category that matches your travel purpose. Vietnamese nationals residing overseas, along with their spouses and children, may apply for a Certificate of Visa Exemption.

This certificate is valid for up to five years, allowing the holder to enter Vietnam and stay for a maximum of six months without the need for a visa. Keep in mind that having the necessary visa for Vietnam travel is crucial, and failure to do so can result in denied entry.

To ensure a smooth trip to Vietnam, obtain a valid Vietnam visa or pre-approval, comply with all entry requirements, and use the same passport when entering and exiting the country.
