Further downstream in China’s Yunnan province, the climate becomes more temperate, making it a unique transition zone between the colder high-altitude region and the warmer lower basin.
  • The Lower Mekong River Basin experiences a tropical monsoon climate influenced by the Southwest Monsoon. The monsoon season, lasting from June to November, brings heavy rainfall to most of the basin.
