1. Overview of Thanh Ha Terracotta Park

  • Address: Pham Phan Street, Hoi An Tay Ward, Vietnam
  • Operating hours: Weekdays: 8:30 AM – 5 PM | Weekends: 8 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Ticket prices: 30,000 VND/child | 50,000 VND/adult

Thanh Ha Terracotta Park, situated in Hoi An Tay Ward, just 3 kilometers from Hoi An Ancient Town, is a distinctive cultural attraction designed by architect Nguyen Van Nguyen. Do not mistake it for the Thanh Ha Pottery Village; they are two separate areas. The park features two primary structures, each inspired by traditional pottery kilns from Thanh Ha’s historic pottery village.

The building on the left, modeled after the “inverted kiln,” houses historical exhibits and ancient pottery artifacts, symbolizing efforts to preserve the village’s rich ceramic heritage. The right-hand building, designed to resemble an “open kiln,” serves as a gallery displaying contemporary pottery from Thanh Ha, alongside pieces from other renowned pottery villages like Bat Trang, Phu Lang, and Vinh Long.

The design of the two buildings reflects the balance of Yin and Yang, with one structure representing a square shape and the other a curved form. This interplay highlights the park’s connection to the past while embracing contemporary design, ensuring that the essence of Thanh Ha pottery is both preserved and celebrated.

Recognized as the largest pottery park in Vietnam, Thanh Ha Terracotta Park in Hoi An also holds the title of being the country’s most unique pottery museum. It offers visitors a diverse experience through its nine different areas: the Pottery Kiln Area, Craft Village Museum Area, Village Product Area, Terracotta Market Area, Miniature World Area, Installation Garden Area, Production Camp Area, Sa Huynh – Cham Pottery Area, Traditional Craft Villages Area, and Exhibition Area. Each sheds light on various aspects of pottery craftsmanship, from its historical roots to modern-day innovations.

One of the key highlights at Thanh Ha Terracotta Park is exploring the history of the village’s pottery-making tradition. On the third floor of the “inverted kiln” building, visitors will find the Thanh Ha Craft Village Museum, home to five grand 3D terracotta reliefs that illustrate the village’s pottery journey from its origins to the present.

Each relief measures 2.5 meters tall, 6 meters long, and up to 10 centimeters thick, depicting the village’s early settlement, its ties to Da Nang (formerly Quang Nam)’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, spiritual beliefs, and traditional pottery techniques. One of the park’s most remarkable attractions is the “Miniature World” section, featuring 33 tiny ceramic replicas of iconic landmarks. Additionally, the exhibit includes 11 renowned Vietnamese sites, such as Hoi An Ancient Town and the Japanese Bridge, all featuring Thanh Ha pottery’s distinctive orange hue. Visitors are often amazed by the craftsmanship and artistry of each model, showcasing both the grandeur of the originals and the skill of local artisans.  This area beautifully blends architectural history with pottery art, making it a must-see at Thanh Ha Terracotta Park.
