Established in December 2001, Van Long Nature Reserve is one of Ninh Binh province’s three special-use forests and contributes to Vietnam’s extensive network of over 100 special-use forests.

Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve features two distinct ecosystems: wetlands and limestone mountains. It hosts 722 plant species from 277 families across 6 higher vascular plant groups, including several listed in Vietnam’s Red Book, such as cot toat bo, bat giac lien, and don gai. 

Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve supports a diverse array of wildlife: 39 mammal species, 100 bird species, 38 reptiles and amphibians, 43 fish species, 132 insects, 48 terrestrial mollusks, and 60 aquatic crustaceans. Notably, it is home to the largest population of Delacour’s langur in Vietnam, and they can be easily observed in their natural habitat.

From Hanoi to Ninh Binh, take National Route 1A, pass through Phu Ly to the Giang Khau Junction, then turn left onto the road to Nho Quan and continue for about 8 kilometers to reach Gia Van Commune, Gia Vien District. Van Long Wetland is located right at the foot of the dike and will surely surprise you when you arrive.

If you are traveling by bus or limousine, book a ticket to Ninh Binh City with services such as Binh Minh Limousine, Ninh Binh Car, Khanh An Limousine, or Trang An Limousine. From Ninh Binh City, you can take a taxi or motorcycle taxi to Van Long Wetland, which is 17 kilometers away.
