The Vietnam visa on arrival is a straightforward option for visitors to enter Vietnam by air. Before boarding, you must apply for a visa approval letter and present it at the airport to receive a visa stamp.

1. A glance at the Vietnam visa on arrival

The Vietnam visa on arrival (VOA) is a convenient entry option for people from other countries entering Vietnam by air. This type of visa is granted directly upon arrival at select airports across Vietnam. To use this option, you are required to fill out an online application in advance and receive an official approval letter before flying to Vietnam. This document enables you to board your flight and get the visa stamped once you arrive in Vietnam.

Unlike traditional Vietnam visas, the Vietnam visa on arrival process does not require sending original passports or supporting documents to any embassy. It is a streamlined procedure, especially for urgent cases, where approval can be processed in two hours. The online application form only asks for basic information such as full name, nationality, passport number, passport expiration date, and intended entry date.

Because the entire process is conducted online, applicants can save on costs like traveling and printing, making the visa on arrival for Vietnam an affordable option.

2. Types of Vietnam entry visa on arrival

The tourist visa (code DL) and business visa (code DN) are the most popular types of Vietnam visa on arrival. Other visa categories such as work visas (LD) or student visas (DH) are not available.

Here is a closer look at the eligible types of the visa on arrival in Vietnam:

  • Tourist visa (DL): For international visitors coming to Vietnam for a holiday. It does not allow visitors to work during their time in Vietnam.
  • Vietnam business visa (DN):
    • DN1: For foreigners working with legal entities or organizations operating under Vietnamese law.
    • DN2: For foreigners coming to Vietnam to offer services, establish a business presence, or carry out activities following international agreements to which Vietnam is a party.

  • Are located outside Vietnam.
  • Hold a valid passport or travel document and plan to enter via designated international airports.
