Getting to Hue Train Station is simple. If you’re taking public transportation, get on buses no. 1, 15, or 16 and get off at the stop on Bui Thi Xuan Street, which is a short walk away from the station. These buses run every 15 or 20 minutes.

If you’re traveling from the Imperial City by private vehicle, the easiest route is via Le Duan Street, then a quick turn onto Bui Thi Xuan Street. The trip covers just 2.5 km and typically takes less than 10 minutes.

1.2. History

Hue Train Station, Vietnam has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. Built by the French in 1906, it was originally called “Truong Sung Train Station,” as the area was once a shooting range of the Nguyen Dynasty. It was part of the 171-kilometer-long Dong Ha – Da Nang railway, which would later become part of the North – South railway in 1936.

Constructed in a classic European railway station style, Hue Railway Station was designed as a full-service transportation hub, complete with a passenger terminal, a cargo depot, a locomotive workshop, and administrative offices. It is the second-oldest train station in Vietnam, after Hang Co Railway Station in Hanoi.

Hue Train Station played an essential role during the French colonial period as a gateway between central Vietnam and southern Vietnam. By early 1907, trains were already running between Hue and Da Nang, and by 1908, services extended to Quang Tri. The station was also used by the Nguyen Dynasty’s kings Khai Dinh and Bao Dai on their journeys to and from Da Nang.

Throughout its long history, Hue Train Station has greeted numerous prominent Vietnamese figures such as Huynh Thuc Khang, Phan Boi Chau, Phan Chau Trinh, and Vo Nguyen Giap.
