Opened to eco-tourism in 2015, Phong Nha Botanic Garden features six main attractions, including a waterfall, a lake, a specimen exhibition house, an interpretive trail, a plant nursery, and a rare tree zone. It offers a rich educational experience for visitors interested in biodiversity and conservation.

2. Ecosystem of Phong Nha Botanical Garden

Phong Nha Botanic Garden is home to 513 species of vascular plants, which belong to 327 genera, 122 families, and 4 phyla. Among them, 16 species are listed as endangered in the Vietnam Red Data Book (2007) and 82 are included in the IUCN Red List (2020).

The flora here fall into 14 different life forms with various uses. Notably, there are 251 medicinal species, 163 timber species, 68 ornamental species, and 54 edible species. This incredible diversity reflects the richness of the tropical forest ecosystem here, which is home to many rare and endemic species, including valuable medicinal plants and large trees that provide precious hardwood.

From December to August, the weather in Phong Nha is ideally dry for outdoor exploration. If you plan to visit during the rainy season (September – November), you should check the weather forecast in advance, as the trails can be slippery and harder to navigate.

4.2. How to get there

To get to Phong Nha Botanic Garden from Dong Hoi, make your way to National Road 16 (QL16), also known as Ho Chi Minh Trail. After about 40 kilometers, turn left onto Provincial Road 20 (DT20). This road will lead you to the botanic garden.

4.3. Opening hours & ticket price

Phong Nha Botanic Garden is open daily from 7 AM to 5 PM. It is best to arrive early to explore all the areas here, especially in summer when the midday heat can be intense.

If you come by yourself, you can get a standard ticket to the botanic garden for VND 80,000. This ticket is free of charge for children under 1.3 meters tall. 

If you come with a tour, you can get special Phong Nha Botanic Garden tickets that come with a local guide, for VND 120,000 per ticket. This type of tickets is applicable only to organized tours, with a maximum of 20 participants per tour and 5 tours per day.
