A Vietnam business visa is a necessary travel document for individuals planning to engage in business activities within the country. Whether attending conferences or exploring business opportunities, having the appropriate Vietnam visa is essential for a smooth and legal entry into Vietnam.

1. What is a Vietnam business visa? Who is eligible for it?

The visa for working in Vietnam, commonly referred to as a business visa or DN1 visa, is granted to foreign individuals entering the country for various work-related purposes. These include working with Vietnamese companies, receiving technical training from foreign-invested companies, attending meetings, and signing contracts, among other activities.

The maximum validity of this type of visa is one year. The duration granted may vary depending on individual circumstances and legal documents provided by the sponsoring company. Unlike a tourist visa which restricts individuals to stay in Vietnam solely for tourism purposes, a business visa allows them to travel throughout Vietnam during their stay in the country.

2. How many types of Vietnam business visas are there?

2.1. Based on the type of business

2.1.1. DN1 Visa

The DN1 Visa is a commercial visa granted to foreign individuals working with companies or organizations recognized as legal entities. To employ foreign workers, businesses must submit their legal documents to sponsor the foreign worker’s DN1 visa application. The types of companies that typically sponsor foreign individuals are:

  • Limited Liability Companies (LLC)
  • Joint Stock Companies (JSC)
  • Branches or representative offices of LLCs and JSCs with foreign investment
  • Companies with foreign investment
  • Domestic companies

2.1.2. DN2 Visa

The DN2 Visa is a commercial visa granted to foreign individuals entering Vietnam for various purposes, such as offering service or establishing a commercial presence according to international agreements of which Vietnam is a member.

The DN2 Visa is less common than the DN1 Visa and does not require the foreign individual to work for a company. However, the sponsoring entity still holds responsibility for ensuring that the foreign individual’s entry and activities in Vietnam align with the intended purpose, such as offering service, signing contracts, providing technical training, etc.

2.2. Based on the duration of the visa

Work visas can also be classified into two types based on their duration and number of entries: single-entry or multiple-entry visas, available for either a 1-month or 3-month period.

4. How many ways are there to obtain a Vietnam business visa?

4.1. At the embassy

You can apply for a Vietnam business visa by visiting the nearest Vietnam embassy or consulate in your country or region. You will need to submit the required documents, including a completed visa application form, your passport, passport-sized photos, and the visa processing fee. The embassy will review your application, and if approved, they will stamp the visa in your passport, allowing you to travel to Vietnam for business purposes.

4.2. Vietnam business visa on arrival

This option is available for travelers arriving by air. To obtain a Vietnam business visa on arrival, you must first apply online for a business visa approval letter through a reputable travel agency or an approved service provider. Once your application is processed and approved, the agency will send you the approval letter via email. Upon arrival at one of the designated Vietnam airports, you will present the approval letter at the visa-on-arrival counter, pay the visa stamping fee, and get your visa stamped in your passport.

4.3. Vietnam business visa online

Vietnam offers an electronic visa application system for citizens of certain countries. You can apply for a Vietnam business e-visa directly through the official website of the Vietnamese government.

The e-visa for Vietnam application process involves filling out an online application form, submitting the required documents, and paying the visa processing fee online. Once approved, you will receive an e-visa via email, which you can print out and use as your business visa for entry into Vietnam.
