Can Tho Museum was created to help educate the public about the region’s revolutionary history. The museum first operated out of temporary locations before moving to a larger space in 1979, where more items were gathered, and displays improved over time.
To expand its role, the provincial government established the Hau Giang Provincial Museum in 1980. The museum opened an exhibit on the local struggle against foreign invaders that same year. When Hau Giang Province was split in 1992, the museum was renamed Can Tho Provincial Museum. In 1998, construction started on a new museum building covering 1,200 square meters.

The new Can Tho Museum officially opened on August 31, 2001. After Can Tho became a centrally governed city in 2004, the museum was renamed Can Tho City Museum. Over the years, Can Tho Museum has earned many awards, including the Third-Class Labor Medal and recognition as a top regional museum in the Mekong Delta.

2.4. Economic, cultural and social achievements of Can Tho
This section highlights Can Tho’s progress since 1975 in many areas. It shows how the city has grown into a major center in the Mekong Delta.
