Tomb of King Thieu Tri is the resting place of King Thieu Tri – the 3rd King of the Nguyen Dynasty. He passed away on November 4, 1847, due to a serious illness. At that time, the tomb was not erected, so his corpse was taken to Long An Palace.
Before his death, King Thieu Tri had commended the distinctive architecture of his tomb to his son, King Tu Duc. In February 1948, King Tu Duc started constructing the tomb for his father. A month later, the tunnel used for transporting King Thieu Tri’s coffin to the tomb was ready. In November 1948, the stele with a 2,500-word inscription written by King Tu Duc was put in the tomb.
In May 1948, the main architectural features of the tomb were completed. In June 1948, King Tu Duc personally came to the site for a final inspection, then brought his father’s coffin into the tomb 10 days later.
