1. Where is Tien Son Cave? How to get there?
Tien Son Cave is a renowned attraction within Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, in Phong Nha Town, Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province. Just 200 meters away from Phong Nha Cave, it is often likened to a “fairyland” for its surreal stalactite formations. The cave sits 200 meters above sea level and 120 meters above the Son River, with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 20°C. To reach it, tourists must first make their way to Phong Nha and then conquer 583 stone steps.

2. History of Tien Son Cave in Quang Binh
According to historical records, this cave was first discovered by the locals in April 1935. A year later, French archaeologist Madeleine Colani visited the site in search of relics left behind by ancient Vietnamese inhabitants, although none were found. She described the cave as a heavenly landscape.
In 1999, the British Royal Cave Association conducted a full survey of Tien Son Cave, which measures 980.6 meters in length. According to British cave researchers, this cave took shape tens of millions of years ago as water gradually eroded and hollowed out the Ke Bang limestone mountain range. Later, due to geological shifts, the mountain either rose or sank, causing rock masses to collapse and block the stream. This process created Tien Son Cave above ground, while an underground river carved out Phong Nha Cave below. Although they sit side by side, these two caves are not linked underground.
Since April 2000, Tien Son Cave has been open to tourists under the management of Quang Binh Province. Each year, it draws tens of thousands of visitors. Its appeal lies not only in its natural splendor but also in the legends attached to it, along with the hospitality of the local people.

3.1. Explore majestic stalactites
A trip to this stunning cave will leave you awestruck by its stalactites and stalagmites. Considered a “twin” to Phong Nha Cave, Tien Son Cave is another limestone masterpiece, showcasing spectacular formations sculpted over millions of years. A unique feature here is the sound effect: tapping on certain rock slabs or stone pillars produces echoing tones that resemble gongs or drums. As you venture deeper inside, you will witness nature’s artistry in various shimmering shapes.
3.2. Admire scenery & take photos
From the elevated area near the entrance, visitors are treated to a panoramic view of the river and mountain, where three river branches converge. The arched Tien Son Bridge and colorful flower-lined pathway add charm to the scenery and are perfect for photography. Additional scenic spots include rest stops, eco shelters covered in climbing plants, and a flower-lined stone pathway.
A recent addition – the “Fairyland Glass Bridge” – allows tourists to gaze out across rice paddies, cornfields, and sugarcane plots nestled below the mountain. Hovering nearly 100 meters above the Son River, this is Quang Binh’s very first glass bridge.

- Children under 1.3 meters tall: Free of charge
- Boat ride: 550,000 VND per boat (round trip, max 12 people)
