Nui Chua National Park Vietnam encompasses a vast natural complex (both forest and sea) covering 29,865 hectares, including 22,513 hectares of terrestrial area, 7,352 hectares of marine area, and 7,350 hectares within the buffer zone.

2. Ecosystem of Nui Chua National Park Vietnam

Nui Chua National Park is one of Vietnam’s 11 world biosphere reserves. The park features three distinct landscapes: forest, sea, and semi-desert, creating a diverse range of stunning natural environments that transport visitors to a different world.

Home to a rich biodiversity, Nui Chua National Park includes 1,514 plant species, 27 of which are endemic to the South Central region and 54 classified as threatened in the IUCN Red List and the Vietnam Red Data Book. It also supports 763 animal species across 354 genera, 214 families, and 46 orders. 

Notably, the silver-backed chevrotain, a rare species believed to be extinct in the wild for over 30 years, has been rediscovered in Nui Chua National Park, Vietnam. Among the 60 rare animal species, 48 are listed as endangered in the Vietnam Red Data Book, and 34 face global extinction risks.

The park’s marine reserve includes three key ecosystems: coral reefs, seagrass beds, and intertidal zones. The coral reef ecosystem is particularly notable, featuring a diverse community of 391 coral species (from 16 families, 2 orders, and 1 class) and 347 reef fish species (from 47 families, 12 orders, and 2 classes). 

Nui Chua National Park is also unique for being one of the few land areas where three species of sea turtles emerge to breed regularly. In April 2022, the park was designated a world biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

  • Route 1: From Phan Rang – Thap Cham, take Route 16/4, continue straight until you reach Yen Ninh Street, then turn left. Cross Ninh Chu Bridge, turn right, and continue to County Road 702. Travel through Thai An Village, and after about 30 kilometers, you will reach Nui Chua National Park.
  • Route 2: From Phan Rang – Thap Cham, turn left onto Nguyen Van Cu Street, proceed straight onto Truong Chinh Street, turn left at the Ninh Chu Roundabout to Tri Thuy Bridge, turn right onto County Road 702, and travel straight for approximately 30 kilometers to reach Nui Chua National Park.

5.2. When to visit?

Nui Chua National Park Vietnam is characterized by its unique dry ecosystem. The rainy season here starts later than in other regions of the province, beginning around September to October and ending by December. This area experiences nine months of dry weather, four months of drought, and two months of severe drought, making it one of the driest places in Vietnam. The best time to visit the national park is between March and September.
