1. Overview of the War Remnants Museum

  • Address: 28 Vo Van Tan Street, Vo Thi Sau Ward, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City
  • Opening hours: daily from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM

The history of modern Vietnam traces back to the French colonial invasion in 1858, followed by decades of relentless fighting by the Vietnamese people for liberation. The pivotal moment arrived on September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam’s independence. Yet, the path to freedom was fraught with continued aggression. It wasn’t until April 30, 1975, that Vietnam emerged victorious, restoring peace and sovereignty to the nation.

The War Remnants Museum was established on September 4, 1975 to commemorate the people’s heroic struggle and expose the crimes committed by invaders during the war. It houses a vast collection of over 20,000 documents, artifacts, and photos categorized into themes such as Memories, Historical Truths, War Crimes, and Vietnam – War and Peace. These exhibitions offer visitors a sobering glimpse into the realities of war and its impacts on the Vietnamese people.
