In 1858, French colonizers conquered Vietnam and made this nation one of its colonies. In 1897, France created the Federation of Indochina, dividing Vietnam into areas with independent governments. After Japan’s capitulation in World War II on August 15, 1945, an uprising for national independence in Vietnam promptly started. The People’s Revolutionary Committees took over administrative positions throughout both cities and suburbs in the country. This uprising was termed The August Revolution.
