- The establishment of Vietnam Military History Museum
At the end of 1954, under the direction of the Vietnam Communist Party, the Ministry of Defense constructed a Military Museum in order to preserve artifacts as vivid evidence of the great heroic struggle of the nation. The museum was inaugurated on December 22, 1959, the 15th anniversary of the foundation of the Vietnam People’s Army. On December 4, 2002, the Prime Minister issued a decision to rename the Military Museum to Vietnam Military History Museum.

Vietnam Military History Museum covers the six following historical periods:
- Before 1930: The military history of Vietnam from the time the nation was born until when it first gained independence (in 938); the battles against feudal invaders until the beginning of the twentieth century.
- From 1930 to 1953: The establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Vietnamese revolutionary armed forces (1930 – 1945); the development of guerrilla warfare and construction of forces during the resistance war against the French (1946 – 1953).

- The Winter – Spring Offensive (1953 – 1954) and Dien Bien Phu Campaign: The fierce determination of the Vietnamese people and army that led to the victory in Dien Bien Phu in 1954, pushing the French to sign the Geneva Agreement to end the war and restore peace in Indochina.
- From 1954 to 1968: The development of the Vietnamese army as reinforcement against the Americans in South Vietnam; the decline of American neocolonialism against South Vietnamese revolutionary movements.

- From 1969 to 1974: The victory of the Vietnamese people against American air raids, in particular the battle in North Vietnam in 1972, forcing the US to sign the Paris Peace Accords, resulting in the withdrawal of American soldiers from South Vietnam.
- The General Offensive and Uprising in 1975: The final offensive, which included the Central Highland Campaign, the Hue – Da Nang Campaign, and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, marking the end of the resistance war against the Americans.
