Hanoi Opera House is located at No. 1 Trang Tien Street, Phan Chu Trinh Ward, Hoan Kiem District. It is a prestigious artistic center as well as a famous historical building in Hanoi. This work was built by the French colonial government during the early years of the 20th century. Its construction started on June 7, 1901 and finished in 1911.

Initially, only French officials and their families were allowed to attend the performances of Western artists in Hanoi Opera House. Later, Vietnamese-organized charity concert nights were also held here. From August 1945, it served as the venue for significant cultural gatherings, conferences, and exhibitions by national and international art groups.

2. The outstanding features of Hanoi Opera House architecture

Hanoi Opera House is recognized for its distinctive design. Its architecture takes after that of the Opéra Garnier in France. On the first floor, there is a sizable stage, a major auditorium, and numerous smaller audience rooms.

Inside, there is a staircase in the middle that leads to a large hall on the second floor. At the back of the opera house is the management section with 8 make-up rooms, 2 voice practice rooms, 1 library, and 1 meeting room. Also, there is a room full of mirrors on the second floor facing the staircase. 

Now, modern equipment has been installed in the opera house, making it suitable for all kinds of creative performances. Here, you will be greatly impressed by folk, ballet, piano, classical opera, Vietnamese cai luong, Vietnamese tuong, and drama performances. Several big foreign concerts have also been successfully held at the opera house.

3. Hanoi Opera House opening hours and ticket fee

Currently, there are 2 types of Hanoi Opera House tickets. 

First is tickets for sightseeing. It offers 70 minutes per visit at 120,000 VND/person, with a maximum of 20 visitors at a time. It is available on most days of the week, except for Fridays.

Second is tickets for sightseeing and watching Hanoi Opera House performances on Mondays and Thursdays. It offers 90 minutes per visit at 400,000 VND/person, with a maximum of 250 visitors.

Both these ticket types are sold at fixed time frames, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. In addition, you can also book tickets to watch the art shows that are frequently performed at the opera house at 300,000 VND/person.

4. How to get to Hanoi Opera House?

The opera house is located right in the city center, so you can get here either by bus, car, motorbike, or taxi. 

If you prefer to take the bus, there are buses number 02, 35A, 43, 49, 55A, and 86CT which all pass by the opera house.

If you go by car or motorbike, follow the route: Le Thai To – Hang Trong – Hang Khay – Trang Tien to reach the opera house.

Alternatively, you can also try taking the double-decker Hanoi City Tour bus. Sitting on an open-roof bus will be an exciting experience, as you can watch the streets of Hanoi in the most leisurely and convenient way.
