Hoa Lo Prison, known as “Hell on Earth,” was a site of perversion where thousands of Vietnamese revolutionaries were imprisoned, tortured, and some executed. Inside, visitors are with a disturbing array of torture instruments.

2.3. Hanoi Opera House

The Hanoi Opera House has become a popular tourist attraction, attracting a large number of domestic and international visitors. Since the French colonial era, the Hanoi Opera House has hosted significant historical events. 

Constructed in 1901 by French architects Broyer and V. Harley, its design blends ancient Greek architecture from Corinth with elements of Tulory Castle and the Paris Opera. Standing at 34 meters tall with a total area of 2600 square meters, it features a grand main hall, a striking T-shaped white marble staircase, and a magnificent auditorium with three seating floors and a stage. 

The building also houses the “Mirror Room,” make-up rooms, training rooms, a library, and working spaces. Today, visitors can purchase tickets to attend a diverse range of events, including local Vietnamese music, traditional folk performances, and international concerts.

2.4. St. Joseph’s Cathedral

Located in the heart of downtown Hanoi, St. Joseph’s Cathedral is a must-visit tourist attraction that offers insights into Vietnamese history, culture, and religion through its rich history and distinctive architecture. 

St. Joseph’s Cathedral, designed in the European medieval Gothic style, bears resemblance to Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. However, it possesses a unique blend of Catholic and Buddhist influences. Constructed with brick and terracotta, the cathedral stands 65 meters tall, 28.5 meters wide, with two bell towers reaching 31.5 meters high.

2.5. Trang Tien Plaza

With over a century of existence, Trang Tien Plaza stands as a historical testament and a symbolic image when mentioning Hanoi. Originally known as Maison Godarad, this building was constructed by the French in 1901, catering exclusively to affluent Vietnamese and French clientele. 

In 1960, it was renamed Bách hóa tổng hợp (Department Store) and became the largest store in the North during the subsidy period. In 2002, it was rebranded as Trang Tien Plaza, a name it still bears today. 

In 2013, Trang Tien Plaza transformed into a prestigious shopping destination, featuring over 200 international brands in fashion, cosmetics, bags, shoes, and accessories. Renowned names like Versace, Cartier, and Rolex, along with legendary brands like Burberry and Chanel, grace its halls.
